ASTM A240 grade 316 stainless steel is the standard molybdenum-containing grade, second only to 304 in importance among austenitic stainless steels. Compared to grade 304, molybdenum gives 316 better overall corrosion resistance, especially higher resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion in chloride environments.
